The Laws of Fashion

I found this look on Pinterest, and I thought I just might be able to pull it off.  I would need to keep the colored denim soft and top billowy.  No bright red jeans with a rocker T ala Hot Topic.

The mint hue shown here whispers cool.  The mildly, blush top is the perfect complement to this look~ with it’s angelic sleeves and the neutral, solid heels pull it all together seamlessly.

So,as I shop today I will feel a bit like a rebel.  With each trip to the dressing room twisting and turning in and out of jeans in different colors~ I will be breaking “the rules”.  But don’t worry, I promise not to  pair my new hue of denim with a black, leather jacket and biker boots.  Hopefully, that will make Stacy happy.

What do you think? Do you ever break the “fashion rules”?

Basics Worth Falling For~

Autumn is quickly approaching and I have been making my mental list of a few, key pieces to mix with what I already own. Solid quality at a decent price is my motto. I try to shop locally and love vintage. I check in at our local boutiques first and to curb my addiction to all things unique,  I love Voodoo Couture Vintage’s website seen here .    I suggest making a note of the pieces below that appeal to you and follow my lead.  If you don’t have any luck, I have noted the shop where my inspiration items were found.

1.) Faux snake-skin is the new leopard which was the new black.  Look for it in unexpected colors on shoes, dresses and bags. Banana Republic

2.) Metallic, Structured Bags add shimmer to an otherwise conservative background of fall neutrals.  LLBean.

3.) Dresses in Jade Green.  This is the color for fall going into winter and will make you stand out in the waves of LBDs.  Topshop

4.) Polka Dots are replacing stripes this season.  But be careful with going overboard.  You may want to keep it simple and add a polka-dotted scarf or just wear a blouse in this print.  Marc Jacob’s runway.

5.) Flared-Leg Trouser Jean.  I love my high-waisted pair by JBrand, I bought from Lauren at Vault Denim.  Top with a light-colored blouse and a thin, bright belt(like the one above). Nordstrom

6.)  I’ve always held a special place in my heart for ankle-strap heels.  They are so classically, feminine.  These by Chloe are extra-amazing due to that Lucite heel.

Flashback Friday~The Seventies~

 stevie nicks~epitome of romantic dress

It seems the further we get from the 70’s~ the more I am drawn to them.  Even though, it was the decade, I was born ~ I never really had much of an appreciate for polyester and platforms.  However, as of late, I find myself drawn to the effortless styles from then~ women with soft hair, light makeup,  glossy lips,  and clothing with movement.  These women dressed with such a carefree and comfortable attitude that was really sexy compared to all the structured looks of today.

Happy Long Weekend!

jerry hall's makeup is light and natural here

i will be adding this dress to one of my all-time clothing obsessions

jaclyn smith was the most beautiful woman from this decade

Long on Style~

In the 80’s, I had a Tank Dress. It was in a sky blue(to show off my summer tan) and I specifically remember wearing it to see Top Gun with my BFF, Diana.  I wore the dress with huge gold hoops and espadrilles.  Not bad style for a 15-year-old(in the 80’s nonetheless).  Fast~forward 30 years and tank dresses are back in full-force.  Nowadays, I love the ease of a good quality tank dress and how with a few choice accessories they can go from a day running the kids around in flip-flops~ to a sunset dinner(add a wood cuff, slim belt and wedges).  Top with a pair of Aviators(yes, thanks again Top Gun) and a cross-over body bag to complete the look.

1.) H&M; $24.95

2.) Calvin Klein; $159.00

3.) Betty B.;$20.00
4.) The Gap; $39.95

5.) Lucky; $49

6.) Alice & Olivia; $236.00

Ideas of What to Wear to Easter Dinner/Passover~

{Free People Halter Dress would be lovely for Easter~ $128.00}

 Easter and Passover are here and if you are like me~you waited until the last-minute to fulfill the Easter Bunny’s duties.  We will get to baking, cooking and “basketing” tomorrow.   Today, I want get the important part of the spring holidays out-of-the-way~ The Outfit.

It has been a tradition, as long as I can remember to don a new Easter Bonnet.  But let’s forego that and wear a new outfit instead.  After all, isn’t that what Spring symbolizes? A new life?  If you are attending church and/or a dinner with family, think dress.  Something in a pastel/floral print is a must for Spring.  Plan on adding a shawl or light sweater.  Our weather in VC should be pleasant and in the high 60’s.  If you are spending a day outside with the family, a pair of light-colored shorts or cropped pant and a pastel t-shirt would be cute and comfy.

Though, I’ve never attended a Passover dinner~ I would be honored to.  And if I did, I would be sure my outfit was a little more serious that what I chose for Easter.  I would choose a subtle print over floral and in jewel tones.  Maybe a belted cardigan with a pair of dress pants.

{Zac Posens Maxi Dress for Target, would make a serious statement at Passover Dinner}

{Pair this dress by H&M with a cardigan and a pair of modest heels for Church}

{This look by H&M would be perfect for a day outing with the fam. Shorts~$9.95}

After a weekend filled with outdoor activities and warm weather, I’m really excited about this Summer.  So much so that I am adding to my work out routine this week and even contemplating a few of these bikinis.  Colorblock is big right now and can be a great way to camouflage those trouble areas.  Choose a darker color in the spot you want to down plan and a lighter one where you want to show off!

4. ISSA; $250

Summer Wedges

Wedges are one of the few styles of shoes, you can pair with just about any outfit.  And, I am really excited about all the great ones popping up this season.  They look great with shorts and a flowy top, dresses, pants and jeans  alike.  Be sure to purchase at least one pair in a stand-out color.  It’s a great start to experimenting with all the warm weather brights out there right now!

Love On A Hanger~

On my last trip to Nordstrom Rack, I discovered a label, I had never heard of.  I couldn’t help but notice a rounder filled with colorful tank tops, blouses and rompers~ all by a line called~ Love On A Hanger.  And boy, do they live up to their name!  The soft, seamless tanks are a must for any gal’s spring/summer wardrobe and a steal at about $8.00.  The blouses all have great detail and the rompers are a mix of sexy and sweet.  I scooped(no pun intended) up 2 tanks and went back for 3 more.  I can definitely see this as a longterm love affair…

{love the corsette like detail}

{adorable paired with flat, strappy sandals}

Va Va Voom~

I had  been waiting with bated breath for the new Chanel ads with Keira Knightly as a bad~ass heroine.  Kiera riding a blush Ducati and dressed to match is stunning.  But, let’s face it~she could be wearing a paper bag while on a Vespa and still look just as hot.

Spring Fling~

With hopes that this warm weather will stick around for more than a day or two~I have started  my mental Spring Wish List.  At the top of that list is a pair of Scalloped Shorts.  Lately, I’ve noticed I tend to veer more toward  styles of shorts that would pair nicely with sandals or heels in lieu of tennis shoes/flip flops.  I think any of these show would do.  Now, if this weather will just make up it’s mind, I can begin my hunt!
